2022 Wenzhou International Design Biennial (Wenzhou Biennial) is an exhibition with international vision and professional standards through high standard and strict evaluation, hosted by the Publicity Department of Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee of Zhejiang Province and Zhejiang College of Security Technology. With the theme of “Green and Poetic Road, Digital and Intelligence Future”, it aims to display and promote frontier design concepts and expressions. Through integrating design with culture, science & technology, fashion, industry and economy, Wenzhou Biennial devotes to exploring the future development of industry supported by design.

Wenzhou is well-known for its history of reform and opening up. The “Wenzhou Model”, which has been condensed the practical experience of more than 40 years, is precisely a large-scale and long-lasting “innovation” and “design”. Wenzhou Biennial has been held for twice, and Wenzhou design has deeply continuously communicated with the world through the event. 2022 Wenzhou Biennial will continue to uphold the concept of design innovation and help to strengthen the communication and cooperation with internal and external in  design community in order to promote and transform innovative achievements. It will also further highlight and display the quality and pattern of Wenzhou’s cultural interconnection.

The competition is open to all companies, colleges, institutions and individuals around the world. Each category is divided into professional group and student group.

Professional group: designers, design enthusiasts, ect.

Student group: Full-time students from art school. (Including students from colleges and universities.)

4.Category

4.1 Product Design

(1) Intelligent Service Design: any smart hardware or software products with IoT, AI, VR and other new technologies.

(2) Safety Protection Product Design: any safety protection products related to manufacture or life, including products of personal safety protection, home protection, fire protection equipment in life or manufacture, intelligent monitoring, etc.

(3) Fashion Design: including personal fashion items that decorate the human body, like fashion design, leatherware, clothing accessories, glasses, jewelry, etc.

(4) Cultural & Creative Design and Intangible Cultural Heritage Design: including intangible cultural heritage and derivatives, cultural and creative products and derivatives, cultural and creative products, signs, and packaging that can be produced and applied in normal life.

4.2 Environmental Art Design

(1) “Smart City”: any designs integrated “traditional culture” and “digital civilization”, related to green city, smart city, and cultural city, including regional landscape environment design, architectural design such as commercial spaces, living spaces, community renovation, ecological communities, cultural and traditional towns, etc.

(2) “Cultural Countryside”: any designs about country houses, lodges and folk culture halls with local cultural characteristics related to countryside revitalization and presenting folk culture and art.

4.3. Poster Design

1、Content: any poster designs related to the city and culture and human sustainable development.

3、Requirements: no less than three posters in the series.

4、The works must be created after July 2020.

5. Registration

5.1 Registration

The competition adopts public registration and expert nomination. The public registration works need to participate in the preliminary evaluation, and the experts nominated works can directly enter the final evaluation after the examination by the committee. Nomination experts and judges will work independently. One work can be only registered in one category.

5.2 Registration period and fees

Work collection period is from Dec 1, 2021 to June 30, 2022 at 24:00(UTC+8). Overdue works will not be accepted.

No registration fee will be charged. Participants shall bear the logistics, insurance, customs clearance and other expenses incurred by themselves.

5.3 Requirements and Notice

All kinds of design can be registered such as products, software, and comprehensive services. The Committee has the right to adjust the group and category accordingly.

(1) Product Design: Professional Group is targeted for works in the market within 2 years, or providing full-functional prototype before final evaluation with the year (Environmental art works do not need to provide samples). Student Group is targeted for works which have not launched in the market but need to provide design model before final evaluation.

Works of poster design and environmental art design are required to be created after July 2020.

(2) The works must be original. Anyone who plagiarizes will be disqualified. The relevant legal consequences shall be borne by the submitter. Except for the registration form, no names, organizations and any other unrelated marks about the submitter is allowed to appear on the works, otherwise the participation qualification will be canceled.

(3) Please see Attachment 1 for Requirements and specifications for submission. The preliminary evaluation results and the work delivery information will be announced on the official website.

(4) The preliminary evaluation will be submitted online, please pay attention to the notice on the official website (http:// wzdb.zjcst.edu.cn /).

5.4 Donation and collection

(1) Qualified award-winning works will be collected and granted “Certificate of Wenzhou International Design Biennial Collection”.

6. Evaluation Process

The evaluation will be divided into preliminary evaluation and final evaluation. The results will be published on the official website.

(2) Announcement for the result of preliminary evaluation: September 1, 2022

(3) Final evaluation: October 30, 2022

(4) Deadline for the Work Delivery: September 20, 2020

7. Awards Setting

The competition is divided into 3 categories, each item is divided into two groups (professional group and student group). The works will be review separately. Each group sets 1 gold award, 2 silver awards, 3 bronze awards and several honorable mentions. The winners will be granted certificate and trophies authorized and sealed by the Publicity Department of the Publicity Department of Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee.

Requirements and specifications for submission

1.Work Specifications

Product Design: 1 panel, 700mm×1000mm vertical layout, resolution 300dpi. In addition to the simple design description, the content of the picture should reflect the whole picture of the work. Hardware products should be marked with the size of the work (length×width×height cm), material and other related information, requiring multiple angles, references, reflecting the original appearance of the work as far as possible.

Environmental Art Design: 1 panel, 800mm×1200mm vertical layout, resolution 300dpi. The content of the picture should contain but not limited to simple design description, design plan, real-world information.

Series of posters: 3 posters, 700mm×1000mm, with unlimited layout of horizontal and vertical, 300dpi resolution.

The image format is jpg, CMYK mode, and the size of a single image shall not exceed 80M. The panel of product design and the environmental art design shall include a brief design description, which can assist in explaining the design intention and characteristics of the work, and the number of characters is not limited, but the language shall be Chinese (both traditional and simplified) or English. The top and bottom of the panel should have the Wenzhou Biennial graphic recognition template, which can be downloaded from the official website (http:// wzdb.zjcst.edu.cn /).

Judging picture: the format of the picture is jpg, 210mm*290mm, with a brief design description. Horizontal and vertical are not limited, the resolution is 300dpi, RGB mode. The size of a single image should not exceed 20M.

2. Video

Video and roaming animation can be attached, which is not compulsory but a credit. The video format should be MP4, and with the same work title no more than 100M, not less than 20M, the definition 1080p, no longer than 5 minutes, the display ratio 16:9.

3. Work Description

Word format, within 200 words, Times New Roman, font size 16, A4 (210mm×297mm) vertical version, the content should clearly express the idea and the work.

The description of the work and the work evaluation pictures should be put in a folder: category + group + name of the participant + name of the work + evaluation file.

4. Application Form

Participants should download the application form from the official website (http:// wzdb.zjcst.edu.cn /), after filling out then send it in a package with the exhibition pictures and judging folder. All files (including judging folder) should be put into one folder for submission, and the folder naming format should be: category + group + the name of participant + the name of work, for example

Example 1: product design - professional group - Yang Jing - travel experience app design.

Example 2: Environmental Art Desigm - Student Group - Liu Mengxiang - Hundred Works of Art.

Notice for Final Evaluation

1. Works Delivery

(1) After the Preliminary Evaluation, shortlisted works (models or prototypes) must be mailed to the committee for the final evaluation and exhibition. Failure to provide or mail the works to the committee on time will be considered as giving up the final evaluation.

(1) Participants should bear the fee of transportation, insurance, customs and other expenses incurred in delivery. Freight collect will not be accepted.

(2) All short-listed works will be displayed on the exhibition, and the participants should install and debug them to usable state by themselves. If the participants need to entrust the committee to install and debug the works, they should provide detailed installation video or instructions.

(3)The exhibited works require a self-made solid wood packaging box, which is sturdy, easy to carry, and affixed with a unified label (work registration form)

2. Return

(1) The committee will not be responsible for the return of works. If the participants need the committee to return the works, please fill in the return information on time. Overdue requirement will be rejected.

(2) In order to ensure the influence proceed of the evaluation, exhibition and other activities, all participants could only request the return within the return period; after the exhibition, the committee will arrange the return.

(3) Participants shall bear all costs regarding transportation, tariffs, etc. For entries to domestic cities, the committee will use freight collect for returning. For entries to overseas countries, participants should provide the delivery materials (including but not limited in express waybill, proforma invoice, cargo packing list, etc.) and contact express company staff to designated venue for taking the entry.

(4) Participants will automatically be deemed as waiving the ownership of the entry without complete returning information by Nov.30, 2022.
